Our Show Reserve wines pay tribute to the great wine regions of Australia and their ability to produce defining examples of celebrated varietals. This range allows us to express the particular regional characteristics of each wine made in the true Rosemount. Crafted from premium parcels of grapes these wines receive additional maturation in the winery cellars, enabling them to develop the distinctive bouquet and rich varietal flavours for which their region is renowned.
This Show Reserve Shiraz brings together two of South Australia's most distinctive wine regions, combining the spicy richness typical of McLaren Vale with the superb depth of varietal fruit concentration from Langhorne Creek.
This 1998 Shiraz displays a deep red colour with an intense purple rim.
The nose displays the rich voluptuous aroma that is a characteristic of super-ripe Shiraz. A superb layered nose, with aroma of mulberry, vanilla, spice, ripe plums, confectionery, violets and black pepper.
Excellent mouthfeel, with flavours of ripe plums, chocolate and spice. Fine grained 'firm-ish' tannins, followed by a long aftertaste of mocha, black pepper, liquorice and spice. A fine, underlying acidity holds the wine in balance and sustains the flavours through to a long, spicy, almost smoky finish.
The 1998 season in both regions enjoyed some late winter showers in August, which helped facilitate an even budburst, flowering and fruit-set. The lack of really hot weather and frequent cold nights played a central role in fixing acid, tannin and colour stability in the grapes. Hotter weather in March served to concentrate fruit flavours and accelerate final ripening up to harvest.
The fruit were gently crushed and pumped into traditional fermenters. The must was pumped over twice daily facilitating an optimum extraction of flavour, fine tannins and colour. The wine was matured in new and 1-year-old American oak for 2 years.
Rosemount Estate has established itself, in a little over thirty years, as one of Australia's leading wineries, producing a selection of fine wines that reflect the riches of the Australian climate and the winemaking team’s constant dedication to wine quality, innovation and style.
Gold 2001 International Wine Challenge - The incredibly dark, inky colour. Menthol, herbaceous blackberry fruit. Amazingly intensity, with a massive structure and wonderful tannins. Sweet oak supports and balances rather than smothers the big fruit.
