‘AAA’ is the name chosen for this new series of unique and exceptional discoveries by the Dominio de Valdepusa estate, which is based not only on the idea of excellence, but also on that of uniqueness. This wine is only produced when an exceptional batch emerges in an exceptional vintage. There are no fixed rules when it comes to its composition, vinification or ageing. Additionally, the Marques de Griñon’s three daughters’ names feature three "A's": Alexandra, Tamara and Aldara.
Vibrant, opaque purple in colour with ruby reflections
This Petit Verdot wine shows layered aromas of crushed black cherries, black currants, wild flowers and black pepper.
Equally rich on the palate, the wine shows beautiful balance and length.
Must is transferred to new or semi-new French oak barrels of 225 litres, where it performs malolactic fermentation due to its extraordinary intensity of colour, aroma and flavour as well as its overflowing personality. It follows a prolonged ageing in new barrels of 225 litres which have been toasted slightly longer than normal.
Limited series of 3,158 numbered bottles produced.
Dominio de Valdepusa is located in Castilla-La Mancha, some 31 miles from Toledo, near the Pusa River. It covers 50 hectares, 20 of which are planted primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah. The balance is pristine land populated by local varieties of oak, wild olive trees, brush, thyme and rosemary, which contribute to the overall complexity and personality of the single estate. The family believes in the importance of the terroir and does its utmost to transmit the land’s characteristics to their grapes, including the soil’s physical, mineral and biological characteristics.
The tannins of this wine are already soft and round, but this wine will undoubtedly improve in the next 2 years reaching its potential with 4/5 more years of bottle. AAA is a wine that will develop very well in the next 10-20 years.
Marqués de Griñón - AAA 2013 - Wine Spectator - 90
“Rich and dense, this powerful red offers tangy plum and currant flavours, with notes of iron, loamy earth and liquorice. The tannins are very firm, the acidity quite lively. The effect is expressive and bold, in the modern style.” -- 11/30/2017
