In 1991, Marques de Griñon pioneered the first successful Syrah vines of Spain and has since demonstrated its world-class quality potential. Made entirely from this noble variety, the grapes are fermented separately parcel by parcel in stainless steel followed by 12-14 months in second-fill French barriques.
Opaque purple in color, this wine displays complex, layered aromas of blackberries, cassis, freshly ground white pepper and violets with savory undertones. Equally rich on the palate, the fruit-forward flavors are beautifully accompanied by fine, silky tannins and a smooth, velvety body.
Created entirely from vines cultivated in the clay-limestone soils of the Valdepusa Domain (Malpica del Tajo, Toledo), the property of the Marqués de Griñón family since 1292. Manual harvesting, followed by destemming and fermentation in gravity-fed tanks. Prolonged maceration up to 4 or 5 weeks and ageing in new and semi-new barrels of Allier French Oak, for 12 -15 months, in a heated ageing shed.
