Tasting Notes 

Colour

Intense ruby red colour

Nose

Primary aromas of ripe wild berries, balsamic and subtle toast, cedar, and rosewood notes.

Palate

On the palate, concentrated, harmonic, distinctive but well-integrated acidity. Structured, full-bodied, velvety, and lasting. 

Production Method

The vines are located exclusively in Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa on the north-western edge of the most prestigious wine appellation of Spain. The vines grow  650m a.s.l. on nutrition poor calcareous clay soil. Intense maceration for phenol extraction is achieved by frequent transfers. 

The temperature-controlled fermentation is done in stainless steel deposits at a maximum temperature of 26Cº. Ageing takes place for 24 months in French and American barriques.

History

José Abascal (1743-1821) as patron, provides the name of the umbrella brand and quality seal Marqués de la Concordia. In 1812, Abascal was brevet by the Spanish King Ferdinand VII. the noble title of Marqués de la Concordia of Peru. In his function as viceroy, he expedited harmonious social reform, knowledge transfer and cooperation between Creoles and Spaniards.

Did you know?

Rioja can appear in four styles.

  1. Generico: Wines in their first or second year which keep their fresh fruitiness. 
  2. Crianza which are at least in their third year, having spent a minimum of one year in casks. 
  3. Reserva: Selected wines of the best vintages that have been aged for a minimum of three years, with at least one in casks.
  4. Finally, Gran Reserva which have spent at least two years in oak casks and three in the bottle.
