This is one of the most consensual and consecrated wines of Ravasqueira, which seeks to take advantage every year of a unique terroir where, before being planted grapes, there was an orchard of pomegranates.
Tasting Notes
Dense incarnate colour, dark and opaque. Closed nose, at first. Followed by a complexity of black fruits, cedar, forest fruits, squaw mint, spice mix, cardamom, and earthy. Tasteful, solid, growing tannins yet solid and elegant at the end. Very fresh, granite mineral finish.
Information about Monte da Ravasqueira
Located in the municipality of Arraiolos, about an hour’s drive from Lisbon, the Monte da Ravasqueira estate occupies a vast area of typical Alentejan landscape. The excellent geological conditions and the unusually cool climate are well suited to the production of some of the best wine that the Alentejo has to offer. A great deal has been invested in planting vines and acquiring sophisticated, modern winemaking equipment.
The vines are planted in clay limestone soil with granite outcrops which lend the grapes their distinctive minerality and freshness. The Vinha das Romãs Tinto is a premium blend of Syrah and Touriga Franca, grown on 7.5 hectares of a vineyard that used to grow pomegranate trees (Vinha das Romãs means ‘the Pomegranate Vine’), this is a fabulous expression of the modern Alentejo. The wine spends 9 months in French oak barrels, showing complex black fruit, cedar, wild berries, mix of spices, cardamom and earthy characteristics, a lot of freshness and a granitic mineral finish.
