Fresh cut apple, melon, lime and spring flowers on the nose leading to a bright fruit palate of citrus and green apple with a crisp lingering finish.
Since its launch in 2001 Waipara Hills has expanded from a very small company producing 6,000 cases to over 89,000 in 2006. In July 2006 they merged with New Zealand Vineyard Estate thus bringing in 325 hectares of premium mature vineyards ensuring volume and continuity of supply.
The Kuki range has been designed specifically for the UK independent trade sector and currently consists of a Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. New Zealand's largest wine region in production and area, Marlborough is located at the northeastern tip of the South Island. It stretches from the small port town of Picton in the Marlborough Sounds to the east coast town of Kaikoura.
The long, straight Wairau Valley has the most extensive plantings of vines and the region currently has 58,300 acres (23,600 hectares) of land planted with grapes in 2010. This young wine region has won worldwide acclaim for Sauvignon Blanc. Marlborough is one of New Zealand sunniest and driest areas. Plenty of sunshine with cool nights and a long growing season helps to promote the vibrant fruit flavors for which this region is renowned.
Sauvignon Blanc has become New Zealand's most important export wine, producing feisty, pungent, dry white wines of consistent quality. The valleys were developed millions of years earlier by a large glacier. The Wairau Valley is in close proximity to the Wairau River that runs from mountains in the west to the Pacific Ocean in the east and has a warmer, wetter climate.
South-east of the Wairau Valley, the Awatere Valley has a cooler, dry climate, producing grapes with intense fruit flavours and minerality. Both sub-regions have stony, fast-draining, heat-reflective, infertile soils.
