History
Produced from 40-year-old vines grown on the slopes of the Sierra Yergas, just south of the River Ebro in Rioja Baja. The wine is produced predominantly from Tempranillo grown in the La Montesa vineyard, blended with 10% Garnacha from Siete Caminos to add aroma and body. Following a long maceration period, the wine spends 12 months in 60% American and 40% French oak barrels (both used and new). This is followed by a further 12 months in bottle prior to release.

Tasting Notes
Intense and elegant with notes of blueberries and red forest fruits and slow. Due to its aging in French oak, delicate aromas of pipe tobacco, menthol and cedar appear with a mineral finish that gives it personality. It is dense, well balanced, with fine and polished tannins and a long finish.

Producer
Bodegas Palacio, which is based in Laguardia in the heart of Rioja Alavesa, was founded in 1894 by Don Cosme Palacio. It forms part of the Grupo Bodegas Palacio 1894, which is one of Spain’s most successful premium wine companies. The winery owns 200 hectares of vineyards and focuses on classic Rioja styles which are 100% Tempranillo, as well as traditional whites made predominantly from Viura. The cooler climate and generous rainfall in Rioja Alavesa gives the wines their trademark freshness and elegance.
Production
Selected grapes from old vines, traditional production methods including gentle winemaking processes to maximise fruit expression. Temperature-controlled fermentation. Ageing: 26 months in French oak barrels. The wine remains in the bottle for at least 36 months.
