Pepi Umathum is a master of Sankt Laurent and this, his classic style, is a is fresh and lively version for everyday indulgence. Sankt Laurent is thought to be a relation to Pinot Noir (crossed with an unknown native variety).
Tasting Notes
Colour
The deep purple color comes from thicker skins which promotes slow ripening and increased phenolics.
Nose
On the nose a hint of blackcurrant jam, Earl Grey tea and light florals
Palate
The palate is big and full with grippy, fresh ripe tannins, notes of orange rind and cherry jam. A wine to partner with a rich stew.
Producer
Joseph Umathum applies organic and biodynamic principles in farming his 150 acres of vines, which are situated on the north and east sides of Lake Neusiedl. The winery is mostly known for its authentic red wines like Zweigelt, St.-Laurent and Blaufränkisch which are available as elegant classic wines as well as characterful single vineyard selections.
