2019 Mac Forbes Woori Yallock ‘Ferguson Vineyard’ Chardonnay
Regular price £49.50 Sale price £36.50 Save 26%Woori Yallock has gained cult status for Mac and its not hard to see why.
Only 1,500 bottles produced
Tasting Notes
This is not about fruit, but about structure, with lemon pith, rock salts, pear skin running the taut, vibrant palate, to a humming and saline finish. Very much in youth, this is powerful now, just starting to reveal itself, and will certainly continue to impress over the coming years in your cellar.
The Wine
This is arguably the finest Chardonnay to ever be produced by the hands of Mac Forbes. The Woori Yallock vineyard is Mac's baby. Planted in 1995, the 'School House Block is owned by the Ferguson family. Mac has been working the vineyard since 2012 and the resultant wines have been spectacular. This is a Chardonnay with amazing intensity. It's wound tight but has a glorious generosity of fruit. Oak sits firmly in the background, Mac allowing the site to shine in the glass.
The Vineyard
Sitting behind the Waramate hills, this area encompasses both red volcanic and grey loam soils making it slightly more complicated to pinpoint a clear identity of this subregion. The undulating hills provide protection from the drier winds, the rainfall is slightly higher and the perfume, weight and structure appears more dense and effortless, pulling through seamlessly to the back palate.
De-stemmed and crushed before pressing, partial malo 10 months in old oak, indigenous, no fining, sterile filtration.
About Mac Forbes
If you love premium and artisanal Australian wine, Mac Forbes is a name you need to know. He’s not only one of the country’s most talented winemakers, but he’s one of the most influential spokesmen for promoting the concept of Australian ‘terroir’, believing that wine should represent a time and a place.
Mac specialises in single vineyard Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet from the Yarra Valley. His wines are delicate and finely etched, characterised by subtlety and grace.
His Pinot Noirs are fine-boned, Chardonnays are loved by those who look for fruit purity rather than winemaking artifice in the variety, his array of off-dry Rieslings from the Strathbogie Ranges are some of the country's most unique.
And his ever-expanding range of experimental wines is a treasure-trove for the curious drinker and he is honestly one of the most genuine and affable winemakers you'll ever meet!

2019 Weinhofmeisterei Mathias Hirtzberger Treu Federspiel Grüner Veltliner
Regular price £25.49 Sale price £20.49 Save 20%The name of this wine is 'loyalty'.
Tasting Notes
Colour
Light yellow-green, silver reflections.
Nose
Expressing a floral yet peppery taste, the wine also boasts a citrus-rich nose of limes and lemons. The grapes are grown in different vineyard plots around the estate, then blended together to showcase the best features of each site.
Palate
A bright wine with a yellow and green palate, this wine displays a lovely minerality alongside flavours of white peach, citrus and fine herbs.
Producer
Franz Hirtzberger is known for richer styles, but his brother Mathias Hirtzberger started in 2014 with a more balanced style. The Federspiel style of GV makes an excellent aperitif as it has some weight, but it’s not overly broad-shouldered – it’s limited to 12.5% abv.
Wachau is the most westerly region and its wines' style broadly depends on the vintage. It has a number of different soils but the vines tend to grow along the Danube River Valley.

2020/21 Vina Ambrosia Vina Unica Chardonnay
Regular price £22.99 Sale price £19.99 Save 13%It is a classic modern Chardonnay style, with elegant oak use, and delicate integration and balance. A premium, cool-climate, high-altitude Argentinian Chardonnay.
Tasting Notes
It is a classic modern Chardonnay style, with elegant oak use, and delicate integration and balance. On the nose shows a rather shy personality, with crunch red apple and lemon notes and a subtle smoky and white pepper hint. It is creamily textured on the palate and opens up generously with many layers of apple, pear, and spices. Its very bright acidity makes up for a great Chardonnay expression.
Vintage
Higher and well-distributed rainfall throughout the season was welcomed in 20/21 season after previous years of droughts, yet a hail storm hit hard on our Finca, and our production in volume was reduced significantly. An intensely hot summer was followed by temperatures cooling off slightly just before harvest, allowing the grapes to reach beneficial sugar levels, generous flavour concentration, and a beautifully textured structure. Rains were more intense than average but very well distributed throughout the seasons, providing sufficient water for the vines while keeping moderate yields and excellent health.
History
It was the year 2002 when a group of friends decided to invest in Argentina. They knew little about wine production, but all were passionate wine lovers and excited about the vision of bringing Argentine wines to the world stage. They bought the land that would become Finca Ambrosia and set about turning their idea into reality. At this time, the Gualtallary district began to attract the interest of wine producers, primarily because of its outstanding soil and climate characteristics. Encouraged by the positive forecasts, the friends bought 3 more plots over the years, from which the current winery emerged. Today, Gualtallary is considered the best terroir for producing premium wines in the province of Mendoza.

2017 Sepp Moser Pinot Blanc Trockenbeerenauslese
Regular price £35.99 Sale price £24.99 Save 31%Delightful dessert wine from one of Sepp Moser's best single vineyards.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of honey and stone fruit. The palate is opulent with exotic fruit characters balanced by fresh, bright acidity and a lengthy finish.

Production
Pinot Blanc grapes are sourced from the 3 hectare single vineyard of Fuchsenloch. Considered one of Apetlon's best vineyards, the black gravelly soils here are planted with Pinot Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Scheurebe (Sämling 88). The grapes are crushed and destemmed, with immediate pressing. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in old oak barrels.
Producer
The Sepp Moser Estate was founded by the famous Austrian wine producing pioneer, Lenz Moser. Lenz Moser's son, Sepp Moser, began operating under his own name in 1987 and handed over the direction of this family-owned estate to his own son Nikolaus in the year 2000.
The Sepp Moser Estate comprises of 50 acres of vineyards in two prominent wine regions; Kremstal (22 ha) and Neusiedlersee (28 ha). In the Kremstal, Nikolaus produces an international range of varieties as well as the ever more important local varieties of Gruner Veltliner and Riesling. The reds are produced on the gravelly soils of the warm southern Neusiederslee village of Apetlon. All Sepp Moser wines have been organic (and all estate wines biodynamic) since 2007.
Sustainability
The Sepp Moser estate produces a wide range of wines every year thanks to its vineyards in two diverse regions. There is one main aim in the cellar: the quality of the grapes shall be brought with as little influence as possible to the bottle. The grapes in the Sepp Moser vineyards are harvested by hand and at the cellar of the Atrium House Nikolaus Moser emphasizes gentle vinification and tries to interfere as little as possible with the process so that each wine can develop its own individual style. The fermentation starts spontaneously, and the maturing of the wine takes place on its own.
In 2006, Nikolaus officially moved the estate to biodynamic viticulture – one of the first to do so in Austria – and became Demeter certified. 2009 saw the release of Sepp Moser’s first certified organic wines. Nikolaus is very keen to reduce the amount of copper and sulphur used in the vineyards, and this year saw a reduction of two thirds over what was sprayed previously. He composts all the estates' pomace and vine trimmings, and there is an ongoing effort to plant trees around the vineyards.

2020 Fuentes Del Silencio Mataperezosa
Regular price £39.99 Sale price £29.99 Save 25%These expertly crafted, artisanal wines were borne out of a passion project to revive old vines in this corner of Spain, and have helped put Jamuz back on the wine-producing map.
Tasting Notes
"The 2020 vintage is more restrained and elegant, showing white flowers and hints of nectarine. On the palate, the broadness of Palomino comes in, giving a hint of honeycomb and peach, alongside pastry notes from oak influence. The acidity is very bright and vertical, bringing harmony to the finish." Lenka Sedlackova MW

Producer
Fuentes de Silencio was founded in 2013 on the banks of the Jamuz River, to the south of the province of León. The winery gets its name from the fact that this town had many water reserves and was called the town of fountains.' This passion project is led by oenologist Marta Ramas along with owners Miguel Angel Alonso and his wife Maria Jose Galera. With old pre-phylloxera vines yards, many of which are over 100 years of age they grow the native varieties of Mencía and Alicante Bouschet in very carefully dictated plots. They currently have 24 hectares of vineyards and plantings of Mencía, Alicante Bouschet, Prieto Picudo, Palomino, and Godello. Galician influence here is notable, characterised by the presence of sandy soils and Mencia at high altitudes (800m above sea level) and a continental climate.
Although wine has long been produced in Jamuz, it has done so quietly. This small team is working to bring the essence of the territory back to life and ensure that each of their small plots reaches their highest potential while implementing environmentally-friendly winemaking practices and placing importance on the use of traditional methods. Not only are they the team creating high-quality, exceptional wines of very limited production but they are adding new value to this tiny, relatively unknown region. Jamuz is back on the map.
Production
A blend of Palomino and Doña Blanca, from very old (some pre-phylloxera) vines. Fermentation takes place in a mix of Cocciopesto (a type of amphora) and Austrian oak. Whole bunches are pressed and vatted to settle in the night-time cold. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels where it remains for up to 12 months on its lees, with periodic batonnage.
