Tasting Notes

Intense ruby red turning to garnet with ageing. Bouquet is spicy with hints of cherry, black cherry and plum compote. fine and velvety palate, persistent, with soft tannins at the end.

Production

The soil for this wine vary considerably, adding to the complexity of the wine. Brown and red soil on silts, loam rocks formed from the Cretaceous period, compact red soil on basalt and compact red soil on Eocene limestone. Each valley gives different qualities to the wine, although there is always a high calcareous concentration, with lots of big stones in the first half metre of the ground.

Ripe and healthy grapes are selected at the time of the hand picking. The thinnest bunches are chosen, with the berries not too close one to another, so that the air can circulate. The grapes are laid out in large perforated plastic boxes, to ensure excellent ventilation. The boxes are stacked in the fruttaio, a large airy room and the grapes are periodically monitored so that the Appassimento process takes place. A selection of the grapes are slightly wilted before the soft pressing. The wine is then aged partly in steel tanks and partly in Tonneaux.

During the course of Maurizio's long and illustrious career, he has consulted for well known wineries around Italy and in doing so he came across the vineyards for their Puglian wines. Both the Pugliese and Veneto wines are characterised by an irresistible drinkability, aromatic purity and exceptional value for money.

Tasting Notes

Intense straw yellow with greenish reflections. Delicate with floral notes and hints of citrus fruits and yellow flesh fruits. Fresh, mineral and very well structured and well balanced.

Production

The vineyards are located on a mixture of clay, sand and silt on East facing slopes. Cultivated with the Guyot system, average production is never more than 100 quintals per hectare.

The fermentation lasts 15 days in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 13-14° C. The ageing of the wine is quite lengthy, leaving the wine to rest on the fine lees for about five months in stainless steel tanks.

• 2023 KEYA, Chiaretto di Bardolino Classico- A pale pink shade with an onion skin hue. Delightful fruity and exotic aromas, featuring notes of wild strawberries and gooseberry. Dry and intense, with refined tannins, a firm structure, and a youthful character, finished off with a subtle bitter edge.  A truly elegant Rosé, ideal as the perfect aperitif for a summer evening.
• 2024 Percheron Old Vine Cinsault 

  From gnarly 40-year-old bush vines - an elegant national treasure from dry-grown coastal vineyards.  Along with its blushing hue, the palate rewards with fresh pomegranate flavour and acidity, savoury gamey notes, and a bright, beating heart of cherry ripe fruit. Slightly chilled with pink duck, pink lamb or carpaccio of beef, this is a beautifully defined expression of South Africa’s most achingly fashionable varietal.

• 2025 Santa Tresa Rina Russa Frappato Terre Siciliane IGP  Rina Russa genuinely has its own unique style, as the Frappato grapes come from ancient clones developed on our own estate. It has a very beautiful light cherry colour, with a fresh and vibrant bouquet, reminiscent of wild strawberries and a beautifully balanced palate, with silky smooth fruit, a real freshness running through it and a surprisingly long finish. Delicious with cured meats, cheeses and fish.
