Sizzling Summer Mixed Case
Regular price £60.00 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 117): Computation results in '-Infinity'%This stretch of glorious sunshine has everyone out in their gardens, firing up the BBQs and planning alfresco gatherings with friends and family. To make it even better, we’re excited to introduce our Sizzling Summer Mixed Case, featuring a selection of fantastic wines!
Each case contains the following wines -
- 2023 Fontessa Prosecco Rosé - A fresh and delicately fruity Prosecco Rosé with red berry and floral aromas. Lively on the palate with ripe strawberry and raspberry notes and a clean, refreshing finish.
- 2023 Hermanuspietersfontein Bloos Rosé -‘Bloos’ is the Afrikaans word for blush, which describes the delicate pink hue of this wine. Perfect with Salmon gravlax with lemony creme fraiche and dill on crostini.
- 2022 Dornier Cocoa Hills Sauvignon Blanc - This Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes from the Stellenbosch and Elgin area. The wine has an attractive green tinge in the glass with intense aromas of gooseberry, ripe passion fruit and lime. The mouthfeel is lively with tastes of green melon and lemon with a lingering aftertaste.
- 2023 Smalltown Vineyards The Black Craft Shiraz - A compelling, dark and rich chocolately beast. A classic Barossa Shiraz with intense savoury flavours of thick blackberry compote, black pepper and typical iron-rich beefy flavours. Not a hint of jam here, no sweetness, this is serious Shiraz for grown-ups with balanced acidity, a touch of cocao powder in the finish and tremendous length. As the name implies, black is the key - anything chargrilled would be superb here, so think griddle pans and barbecues!
-
2023 Brotte Baies Dorees Viognier -
The bouquet offers a unique aromatic range including citrus flowers, exotic fruits, apricots, white-fleshed stone fruit and jasmine. Intensely fruity and well balanced this wine is mouth-filling which works in harmony with the flavours of exotic fruit and toasted brioche. Serve as an aperitif or enjoy with toasted goat’s cheese, carpaccio of tuna, white asparagus with hollandaise sauce, brandade de morue, fillet of sole in lemon butter, chicken and green olive ragout, a cheese platter.
- 2019 Armigero Sangiovese Riserva "What a big, bold, rustic beast. Full bodied and smooth with cherry fruits followed by some Mediterranean garrigue and a slab of vanilla to finish - a big wine with big flavours no matter how you look at it - it’s not shy!!" Alan's note

Château La Louvière has many fascinating facets. The sumptuous architecture of the château building dates from the late 18th century, but winegrowing here goes back more than 700 years. Château de Rochemorin belonged in the 18th century to the philosopher, Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, author of the famous Persian Letters. The latter willingly became the ambassador of Rochemorin red wines to his friends, men of letters and other notables, during his numerous trips to Europe, never forgetting to praise the beautiful complexity and the mineral notes on the nose and on the palate balanced and fine, their melted and fine tannins in the finish make them a sure value of the appellation.
The vines of Château de Rochemorin which give rise to this Pessac-Léognan red occupy no less than 87 hectares on a gravel terroir typical of the appellation. Two grape varieties are represented: Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, from vines with an average age of 20 years. The result is a very fruity, velvety, rich wine, with well-balanced tannins.
This vast vineyard is harvested by hand and machine with mechanical sorting for plot vinification in thermoregulated stainless steel vats, before aging for 12 months in barrels comprising 30 to 40% new wood.

The Lost Mexican Gift Pack
Regular price £21.50 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 117): Computation results in '-Infinity'%A perfect Secret Santa or Stocking stuffer for the tequila lover!
Tasting Notes
The set includes 5cl Blanco Agave, 5cl Cafe Agave, 5cl Reposado:
Reposado Agave - El Presidente
Loved by presidents, leaders, and captains of industry, and now sitting as the pinnacle in the Lost Mexican range. The Reposado is a fitting epitaph to the life’s work of one of the early Cornish miners to venture to Mexico.
By 1870, Stanley Kiernan, the son of a Penzance distiller, was the last of a ragtag bunch of miners who had set sail from Cornwall and made their home in Central Mexico. He had spent decades playing with local flavours to create the world’s first range of Cornish-made Mezcal.
Now an old man and as much a Mexican as he ever was a Cornishman, he would take a bottle of his best Reposado up to the Panteón Inglés, where his compatriots lay.
With a wry smile on his weathered face as the memories of their exploits stirred in his mind, he would sit among their tombstones, all facing towards Kernow, and raise a glass to his old friends and their transatlantic adventures.
Café Agave - Mezcal Barrel Coffee Kick
By 1846, Cornish miners had been working in the silver mines of Mexico for twenty years. Knit-frocks and flat caps had been replaced with ponchos and sombreros, whilst sea shanties rang out from the tavernas each evening.
Penzance-born distiller Stanley Kiernan was now famous for his succulent alchemy. His most celebrated concoction, locally known as El Café Del Monte, used agave with vanilla and coffee beans.
Each day, a pasty now spiced with chilli and a ration of El Café was sent down the mineshaft to be met with cries of ¡Yeghes Da Amigos!
The Best Shot in Cornwall - Blanco Agave
In early 1825, Stanley Kiernan, the son of a Penzance distiller, set sail from Falmouth with around 60 of his fellow Cornishmen and 1500 tons of mining machinery. They arrived in Mineral del Monte, Mexico, in May 1826, where they immediately set to work resurrecting the region’s derelict silver mines.
Before too long, the mines were up and running, the pasty was the new staple in town, and Stanley fashions a basic still out of damaged mining equipment. With the help of the locals and their succulent botanicals, he starts to experiment, and on that windswept hill in central Mexico, the world’s first Cornish-made mezcal is born – a recipe lost in time until now…

2019 De Toren Fusion V Magnum Gift Box
Regular price £104.99 Sale price £89.24 Save 15%Tasting Notes
Nose
On the nose, a bouquet of ripe sweet red cherries, blueberries, sweet spice, and subtle nuances of oak prevail, accentuating the fruit. Seamlessly integrated and immensely elegant.
Palate
The taste profile of Fusion V 2019 is vibrant and moderately full-bodied. Fine-grained, yet polished tannins are present in this wine. The red cherry bouquet is unmistakable, leaving the 2019 vintage creamy, layered, and delightfully well-balanced for its age.
Producer
De Toren proprietors Emil and Sonette den Dulk left Johannesburg in 1991 to establish their vineyards in the Polkadraai Hills of Stellenbosch. Situated on southern-facing slopes overlooking False Bay De Toren enjoys the cooling effect of constant ocean breezes. Taking a holistic approach to keeping vineyard soils healthy and balanced viticulturalist Ernest Manuel employs sustainable farming practices throughout the property. Infrared Aerial Imaging is used extensively in order to monitor ripeness in various vineyard blocks and determine optimal picking times although actual harvesting and production are done almost entirely by hand. The winery is operated on gravity flow principles; a 4000 liter pressure tank in an elevator shaft (the Tower from which the winery takes its name) is cleverly used to exploit gravity in transporting wine between tanks and barrels without the use of mechanical pumps. As a result of De Toren’s innovative minimal intervention production methods their wines were among the first South African bottlings to qualify for IP (Integrated Production) certification by the Wine and Spirit Board.
The Den Dulks and winemaker Albie Koch seem to have found the key to success with their simple winemaking philosophy: gentle handling no pumps and minimum manipulation. Armed with this winning formula the boutique farm has quickly risen to the ranks of South Africa’s winemaking elite with their duo of dazzling stylish and complex five-varietal Bordeaux blends: the flagship Fusion V (which debuted in the 1999 vintage and has been hailed by Wine Spectator as a consistently polished outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend) and the Merlot-based Z introduced with the 2004 vintage.
Barrel Maturation
Aged in a climatized barrel/ maturation room (16 degrees Celsius at 80% humidity) for 12 months in approximately 50% new and 50% second fill, 225 Litre Oak barrels. French Oak is predominantly used during maturation, with a portion of the Malbec receiving the benefit of American Oak.

2017 Champagne Gremillet Brut Vintage (Gift Pack)
Regular price £65.59 Save Liquid error (snippets/product-template line 117): Computation results in '-Infinity'%Approachable yet very proper vintage Champagne - perfectly expressing the very particular character of Pinot Noir from the Aube.
Tasting Notes
Fine persistent 'bulles', lovely nose - a mix of ripe Pinot fruit and classic baked biscuit, the palate has Gremillet's characteristic gentle, ripe fruit, some nice complexity balanced with a long fresh finish.

Production
Vines are mainly planted in the Côte des Bars on limestone-clay soil on steep, sun-drenched hillsides. The first-press juice is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats (16° for the alcoholic and 18° for the malolactic) followed by secondary fermentation in bottle. The wine is then matured on lees for a minimum of 5 years, and disgorged with a 9g/l 'liquer de dosage' made from their own finished wine.
Producer
The Gremillet estate was founded by Jean-Michel Gremillet in 1979 when he inherited a plot of vines from his mother, Lulu. Today, the house possesses over 40 hectares of vineyards and is situated in a small village 45 kilometres from Troyes - the historic capital of Champagne - and 180 kilometres south of Reims. The vines lie on steep, sun-drenched hillsides in Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils. Pinot Noir is king here, and constitutes around 94% of Gremillet’s plantings, with the remainder dedicated to Chardonnay, ideal for creating a classic, baked biscuit, rich, fruit-flavoured Champagne.
A Note on Sustainability
This family-owned and run Champagne house is HVE 3 certified, and as much as possible it restricts its use of chemicals in the vineyards. One of its cuvées is certified organic by ECOCERT and hopefully, this is the start of a bigger process.
