2018 Feiler-Artinger Rust am See Zweigelt Burgenland

"Silky smooth palate with a cherry like finish. A superb example of this grape."

Feiler - Artinger is a biodynamic winery located in a baroque house in Rust am See near Lake Neusiedlersee in the Burgenland region of Austria.

Tasting Notes

A classic, fruity and soft Zweigelt, hardly any wood, but lots of fruit and a charming body, pure drinking flow.

Colour

Medium ruby garnet

Nose

Very typical nose of ripe dark cherries, traces of plum jam, a hint of chocolate, sea buckthorn, leafy nuances.

Palate

An elegant body on the palate, sour cherries, something tart from a walnut shell, also reminiscent of forest soil, a very delicate tannin is added, fruity with very light roasted notes on the finish. Great value for money!

Producer

The history of the estate begins when Gustav and Karoline Feiler bought the house in Rust’s main street a year after they were married and developed a mixed farm with cattle and grain as well as vines. The wine side grew and after the war, Gustav began bottling and marketing wine himself.

In 1963 Hans took over from his father to be joined by his son Kurt in 1994. The estate now comprises 30 hectares around Rust and the Hügelland, the chain of low hills to the west of the Neusiedlersee, 65% planted with red varieties, mainly Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt, 35% white, mainly Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Welschriesling.

The soil here is a mixture of slate, stones and chalk. The climate is continental but hugely influenced by the shallow waters of the lake which provide ideal conditions for botrytis. Feiler Artinger is acknowledged as one of the world’s leading dessert wine producers.
