Stunningly rich, sweet and juicy specially selected Fine Old French Brandy, aged for twenty-seven years in a French oak barrique, giving the spirit a deep natural mahogany colour and bottled at 47.5% strength. Made from the most respected of the six Cognac producing regions (crus) with a quality sought after by connoisseurs the world over.

Colour

Russet brown.

Nose

Dark fruits, damson jam, hint of cocoa.

Palate

Dark preserved fruits, pumpernickel bread, malt loaf, ripe dark plums, coffee.

Finish

Long, assertive and powerful. Black grape skins and balanced acidity.

The History of Pintail

PINTAIL was first bottled in 1931 as Matthew Gloag & Son’s house brand of Dry Sherry and soon won international awards for its superior quality.

Featured in Tatler magazine in 1935 –“You cannot be wrong in offering a glass of ‘Pintail’ to your guest for the little “11 o’clock” and before or after meals”. It was regularly advertised in Matthew Gloag & Son’s Christmas brochure alongside the increasingly popular ‘Famous Grouse’ brand of Scotch Whisky as part of their ‘Case de Luxe’ offering.

Unfortunately, the downturn in Sherry consumption in the latter half of the 20th century signalled the end for the brand … until The Whisky Cellar acquired the rights in 2021, lining it up once again with its old ‘Brig O’ Perth’ stablemate.
