2012 Nicolas Feuillatte Grand Cru Millésime Blanc de Noirs Champagne

Powerful and refined, the Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Vintage Nicolas Feuillatte is a champagne of aesthetes, which links the fullness of the year to the racy style of the Pinots Noirs, in a marvelous contrast between grace and rigor. A cuvée as elegant as powerful and structured. The Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs is precision.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Pale gold with fine and delicate bubbles.

Nose

Toasted notes followed by intense notes of spices: white pepper and ginger. Dried red fruits on the bouquet. Hints of blond tobacco.

Palate

The attack is fresh and generous. The elegant structure reveals a tremendous fullness and depth, enhanced by a hint of ginger bread and hazelnut. This 100% Pinot Noir cuvée combines fruit and persistent minerality, very characteristic of the vintage. Exciting and lively on the finish.

The 2012 Vintage

Winter 2012 will go down in history as the return of the Ice Age, largely due to a prolonged spell of severe frost during the first two weeks of February and temperatures much lower than the 10-year average.

Spring was particularly chaotic, with more frost between April and mid-May when hail struck part of the vineyard.

Fortunately, the hot and sunny weather setting in at the end of July and continued until the start of the harvest promoted ideal ripening in the grapes. Though low in volume, the grapes were perfectly healthy.

The Pinot Noir wines resulting from the 2012 harvest are frank and fleshy with notes of white fruit (pear), red berries (cherry and strawberry) and rose.

The year was selected for its perfect balance and set apart to create this smooth and rounded vintage which will show more complexity over time.

Elaboration

Aged at least 8 years in our cellars.

Chief Winemaker adapts dosage levels to each Champagne in order to enhance its flavours and aromas. The choice of reserve wine is crucial and takes into consideration a whole range of factors, including the proportion of cru wines, year of harvest, grape varieties, and vinification and ageing methods, in order to guarantee the intrinsic style of each Champagne.

Blend

This Blanc de Noirs is made exclusively from Pinot Noir grapes selected only in villages rated 100% Grands Crus in the Montagne de Reims. It draws most of its character from the subsoil: balance and freshness from the northern part (on the gentle slopes of Verzy and Verzenay) while in the South, Aÿ, Bouzy and Ambonnay offer delicate spices and both body and minerality thanks to the the chalk-based vineyards.
